Brian Phillips
Brian oversees creative strategy, design and artist development at The Basement. As a child, he was told his attention span was about the length of this paragraph. But after laborious years of watching Liquid Television and daydreaming, he now leads one of the Midwest's premiere digital design agencies. He has held adjunct faculty positions at IUPUI and Ball State and he frequently lectures for industry organizations around the nation. His speaking credits include the 2011 SIGGRAPH conference in Vancouver, AAF, AIGA and the Digital Non-Conference in Cincinnati. In 2010, Brian founded the MG Collective, a professional organization for animators and motion graphic artists, in an effort to cultivate Indiana's growing animation industry. Brian lives in Indianapolis with his wife and two young children.
Jacob Leffler
Jacob established The Basement's operational groundwork and continues to oversee operations and business initiatives for the organization. His career highlights range from account management for several international brands, to navigating start-ups through venture capital and hyper growth. In 2007, he co-founded The Basement with Brian Phillips, their third successful private company launch. He has used his industry wisdom, marketing strategy and technical expertise to engineer solutions for hundreds of digital projects and campaigns, receiving client appreciation and industry awards in the process. Jacob volunteers through community organizations whenever he gets the chance. Jacob is happily married with three children.
Noah Sarff
As Creative Director, Noah spends his days identifying the strategic needs of clients and translating those needs into design that resonate with the audience. His unique mix of experience in brand development, environmental design, advertising and broadcasting bring a new perspective to The Basement. His past efforts for clients, including the NFL, NCAA and Chase, have been profiled by The New York Times, CBS, and Ad Age. Noah has served on the board of D.A.R.E. Indiana and as an advisor to numerous community organizations over the years. A native Hoosier, Noah lives in Indianapolis and enjoys spending free time with family and friends.
Todd Bolster
At the helm of the studio's client services team, Todd orchestrates strategic partnerships for The Basement. During the course of the day, he is most likely to be called Tom, Toby or Frank, but his genuine approach to client objectives and campaign strategy is unforgettable. Prior to joining The Basement, Todd served as Annual Fund Director for the Delta Tau Delta Educational Foundation. Under his direction, the Annual Fund set three consecutive records for total dollars raised. He stays active in the non-profit industry by speaking at conferences and by serving as a volunteer strategic advisor.
Lisa Eckerle
Lisa understands that the intended audience and user experience needs to be at the forefront of all creative and technological discussions. Lisa leads the account team at The Basement, overseeing the day-to-day interaction with clients and ensuring all projects are done on strategy, on time and on budget. She is an 8-year veteran of traditional advertising agencies and media companies. Her client roster has included the Indiana Pacers, Indiana Fever, United States Hockey League, Marsh Supermarkets, McDonald’s and multiple lines of business with Chase. To coincide with her love of sports, Lisa is ready to compete for any marketing challenge that comes her way.

DWELLERS

The Basement is a collection of experienced illustrators, animators, designers, developers & thinkers. We understand our people define The Basement’s ethos. Style. Culture. Process. We are a team of makers. We’ve flourished in the digital age, but remain students of theory and tradition. We not only get it—we build it.

The term “dweller” was coined shortly after the genesis of the studio. As our name represents the place and state-of-mind, the icon represents the people doing the work, like the “Isz” in Sam Kieth's The Maxx or a subterranean cave full of Fraggles. The Dweller is our sans-eared “Mouse” and represents our child-like curiosity and style.

Founded in 2007 by Brian Phillips and Jacob Leffler, The Basement is a digital agency that creates interactions. We specialize in connecting people to brands by combining strategy with storytelling and design with technology. Building on a foundation of interaction design, marketing and animation principles, our designs fuse objective, functionality and appeal. Throughout each project, we set out to create worth for your audience. Something worthy. Something worthwhile.

The Basement represents the state-of-mind when you’re pushing craftsmanship an inch closer towards excellence. The stuff you don’t have time to post on twitter. The work done when no one is looking. It’s our permanent headquarters on the corner of curiosity and ambition. If you ask if “we’re located in the basement?”—the answer is a resounding—yes, but on the second floor!

Since the beginning, we set out to help agencies and brands deliver ambitious ideas. Lawn mowing robots. Bleeding houses. Flying walruses. After hundreds of digital projects, we are grateful for our clients’ trust and continue our romance with the creative process.
