As a founder and our Creative Director, Brian was able to place an indelible stamp on the work and our ability to leverage it by creating meaningful, successful narratives for our client partners. Now, as CEO, he applies that vision – that ability to shape and tell a story – more broadly but no less significantly as both an innovator and in developing new digital products for the agency and its clients. Recognized internationally as an industry thought leader, Brian has held adjunct faculty positions at IUPUI and Ball State and has lectured for industry organizations around North America. His speaking credits include providing insights for such organizations as SIGGRAPH, the AAF, AIGA and the Digital Non-Conference. He lives in Indianapolis with his wife and their two young children, whose love for a good story is only eclipsed by Brian’s own.
Jacob established The Basement's operational groundwork and continues to oversee operations and business initiatives for the organization. His career highlights range from account management for several international brands, to navigating start-ups through venture capital and hyper growth. In 2007, he co-founded The Basement with Brian Phillips, their third successful private company launch. He has used his industry wisdom, marketing strategy and technical expertise to engineer solutions for hundreds of digital projects and campaigns, receiving client appreciation and industry awards in the process. Jacob volunteers through community organizations whenever he gets the chance. Jacob is happily married with three children.
George Evans is a writer by vocation and a marketer by profession. He chose advertising as a “matter of sustenance” (to paraphrase the poet Evan Shipman) and as an outlet for his passion for telling a story. And tell he has for more than 35 years, both in the service of such brands as Nestlé, PNC, Heinz, GlaxoSmithKline and Transitions Optical and as a writer and publisher of short fiction. His specialties include brand development and new-product introductions and he's lent his creative talents, strategic vision and leadership to a host of agencies, including his own which he helmed for 10 years before teaming with The Basement. A frequent speaker, lecturer and industry awards judge (he has also won his share), George still writes when he can and lives in Indianapolis with his wife, an accomplished symphony musician, yoga teacher and educator.
Todd Bolster is Vice President of Client Services for The Basement and has been orchestrating our strategic partnerships for nearly a decade. Todd also drives digital buying strategy and is a catalyst for the growth and success of many of our client partners. In that regard, his role isn’t just developing our business, but the businesses of those we serve. From media strategy to marketing mix to establishing trusted and lasting relationships, our partners look to Todd for his expertise, his leadership and his passion. Prior to joining The Basement, Todd worked in development for a major fraternal foundation, establishing a reputation that today makes him an in-demand strategic advisor and speaker. Todd is a true thought leader and though this all keeps him as busy as one would think, it doesn’t detract from his family life. Todd and his wife, Emilie, have three great kids and being a father fuels another of his passions: inspiring students to achieve their full potential while still bringing fun into their lives.

The Basement is a collection of experienced illustrators, animators, designers, developers & thinkers. We understand our people define The Basement’s ethos. Style. Culture. Process. We are a team of makers. We’ve flourished in the digital age, but remain students of theory and tradition. We not only get it—we build it.
The term “dweller” was coined shortly after the genesis of the studio. As our name represents the place and state-of-mind, the icon represents the people doing the work, like the “Isz” in Sam Kieth's The Maxx or a subterranean cave full of Fraggles. The Dweller is our sans-eared “Mouse” and represents our child-like curiosity and style.
