Film Fest Bumpers
The Basement has partnered with the Indianapolis International Film Festival to curate an animated bumpers program for this year’s festival. Brian Phillips, Executive Creative Director at The Basement, hand selected filmmakers from the MG Collective, the state’s only professional organization for motion designers and animators, to direct five entertaining short stories.

I wanted to create a tale that goes to the crossroads of Spielberg’s Amazing Stories and the front row of a Gallagher comedy show. Grab your weatherproof ponchos and enjoy something unexpected. Something to make you giggle.

Filmmaking is a process. It can be fun, but also hard — especially when your voice actors are a couple of seasoned talk show hosts who just went through a bitter divorce. I wanted to go for an analog take on animation, something in the Pee-wee's Playhouse realm of stop-motion to capture the magic of when things come together. I hope you enjoy!

Somewhere in the Black Hills of South Dakota Scrappy the Squirrel, armed with tenacity and unyielding determination, takes flight: Indiana bound. Inspired by his favorite film, Scrappy reminds us all just what an impact the medium can have on our lives - and the lengths we will go to share that experience with others. The Indy Film Fest commissioned bumpers describing the film festival experience for their July event. I thought of the festival as a train station, and I just wanted to take the audience on a psychedelic ride through a Mongol Shaman's Mystical Spray Can. Beginning with the IIFF's core mission of "Creating a shared experience around film", I developed the idea of forest creatures accidentally witnessing cinema for the first time, yet still having the innate desire to share the experience with one another. I hope you enjoy it.
