The Basement’s first children’s e-book effort claims gold and bronze medals in the Global eBook Awards and a silver medal in the Readers’ Favorite Awards

Indianapolis, IN – September 16, 2013 – Local digital design studio, The Basement, has claimed three more international awards with their first children’s e-book, Every Walrus Can Fly. The 2013 Global eBook Awards named Every Walrus Can Fly the gold medalist in the Children’s Literature, Fiction category and bronze medalist in the Best Children’s Illustrated e-book category. Readers’ Favorite named Every Walrus Can Fly its silver medalist in the Children, Preschool category. This makes The Basement’s first effort into children’s literature a five-time international award winner.

Headquartered at historic Fort Benjamin Harrison, The Basement typically spends its days producing custom, cross-channel media for local, national and international brands, but executive creative director Brian Phillips encouraged the studio to apply itself on an internal project. Now, shortly after the e-book was released via the Apple iBookstore, Barnes & Noble’s Nook platform, the Amazon Kindle platform and Google Play’s Bookstore, the studio wins its third, fourth and fifth international awards for the effort.

“We couldn’t be happier. We enjoyed bringing this idea to life and it has been fun receiving positive reviews and feedback from people who have purchased the e-book. These awards are really a bonus. We are grateful to the Global eBook Awards and Readers’ Favorite for the designations.”—Brian Phillips, executive creative director, The Basement

The Basement is no stranger to awards, having snapped up numerous international awards for its digital design work and most notably, a National Addy in 2009 for Best Online Video Game for work performed for KFC. The difference this time is that the creative effort is wholly owned by the studio, it was not a client project, “We normally are creating innovative work for our clients, so to get recognized for something we did for ourselves is a different feeling for sure.”—Jacob Leffler, president, The Basement
